Payble

Culture

Working at Payble.

We are building the business app for African small businesses. Here is what it is like to build it with us, and what we look for in the people who do.

What it is like

Ambitious work, with room to grow.

We are still early, and small enough that your work is noticed. These are the things that matter most to how we work.

Real problems, real customers

The people who use what we build run shops, kitchens, salons and workshops. What we make either helps them today, or it is not finished.

  • Tools people use every day

Payments, stock, receipts, invoices, customers and staff in one app, and a point of sale for the counter.

  • Close to the customer

Our field agents meet businesses every day, and what they hear shapes what we build next.

  • Work you can see

Walk into a shop and see the till, the card reader or the receipt you helped make.

Ownership and growth

We are still early. That means real responsibility soon, and the chance to grow with the company as it grows.

  • Own a piece of the product

You are given a problem to solve, not a list of tasks, and trusted to solve it.

  • Learn on the job

Working next to people who are good at what they do is the fastest way to get better, and we expect you to teach as well.

  • Say what you think

Good ideas can come from anyone. Disagree with reasons, and be ready to be persuaded.

How we work together

We look after other people's money and data, so we are careful, and we are straightforward with each other and with customers.

  • Plain words

Simple products, honest fees, clear writing. We would rather be understood than sound clever.

  • Trust, earned

Handling money and personal data is a responsibility. We keep to the rules and explain what we do.

  • Diverse, passionate people

We hire a team of diverse, passionate people and foster a culture that empowers you to do your best work.

Working your way

Every role is different, so we say so up front instead of promising the same thing to everyone.

  • On-site, hybrid or remote

Every posting says how the role works and where it is based.

  • What a role offers

Each posting lists what comes with the job, written by the hiring team.

  • Pay, when we can share it

Where a posting can state pay, it does. Where it cannot, we discuss it in the process.

What you would build

One app for the whole business.

Payble is a business app, a point of sale and an online store that share one set of stock, customers and records. It runs on a phone, in a browser and on our own card readers and terminals.

Our values

What we look for in people.

Skills matter, and so does how you work. These are the things we come back to.

  • Built for the people who use it

Our customers run shops, kitchens, salons and workshops. We judge everything we build by whether it makes their day easier.

  • Trust is the product

We look after other people's money and data. We are careful, and we say plainly what we can and cannot do.

  • Clear over clever

Simple products, plain words, honest fees. The same goes for how we write and how we work together.

How we hire

From application to offer.

  1. 1

    Apply online

Choose a role, or introduce yourself if nothing fits yet. Send your details and your CV.

  2. 2

    A person reads it

Every application is read by someone on the hiring team. Nothing is screened out by software and nobody is turned down automatically.

  3. 3

    A conversation

If we would like to talk, we will email you to arrange it.

  4. 4

    The steps for the role

Each role lists its own next steps, for example a meeting with the team or a short practical exercise.
